Executive Summary

Komatsu Ltd., the parent of the Komatsu group, is the world’s second largest manufacturer and supplier of construction, mining and compact construction equipment. Komatsu group (excluding the newly acquired Komatsu Mining Corp.) includes the Company, more than 143 consolidated subsidiaries and approximately 35 affiliates. Approximately 89 percent of the company’s sales and employees are related to the Construction, Mining and Utility Equipment segment. Komatsu is a major supplier of eight major equipment products in the United States and Canada. 

Komatsu’s fiscal year runs from April 1 through March 31st. To eliminate any confusion, it’s important to be aware that Komatsu management refers to a fiscal year based on the year in which the first nine months occur.  For example, fiscal year 2016 refers to the 12-month period beginning April 1, 2016 and ending March 31, 2017.  Fiscal 2016 is also referred to as “the year ending March 31, 2017.” They are used both ways within the context of this document.
