Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), a member of the AB Volvo (Volvo) group
since 1995, was founded 170 years ago and today is one of the world’s largest
manufacturers of construction machines. Its products range from heavy to compact
construction equipment and are manufactured on four continents. Volvo CE distributes
its products through both an independent dealer network and a parallel franchised
rental program. Volvo CE’s products are primarily used in general construction, utility,
industrial, civil engineering, highway, infrastructure and aggregate and quarry
operations. In 2004 consolidated Volvo’s sales were greater than Caterpillar’s with
revenues of $31.5 billion. The Volvo CE Group had sales of $4.3 billion with $1.2
billion in North America alone. Volvo CE had operating income of $236 million in 2004.
