This research report examines the skid steer loader market in North America and is an update to
our last report of February 2004. There are approximately 14 skid steer loader suppliers
in North America, with Doosan being the only manufacturer producing its line abroad
(Korea). This is down from the 23 suppliers identified in our last report with some
manufacturers leaving the market and others’ products being reclassified as compact
utility loaders – loaders that are either stand-on or walk-behind models.
Skid steer loaders are popular machines on many worksites due to their ability to adapt to
diverse conditions, the attachments offered and their ease of use. These machines are
found in agricultural, construction and industrial applications because of their varied
abilities.
As mentioned in our previous report of 2004, sales skid steer loaders saw dramatic
sales level increases through the 1990s, but then saw a 20 percent decline in 2001 and
2002. Sales once again began the upward trend in 2003 and have seen steady increases
in 2004 and 2005.
