JCB is the world’s largest privately-owned manufacturer of construction equipment, and remains one of the larger players in today’s global market. Today JCB produces over 278 different models of machinery on four continents. The company sells a full range of equipment through 550 dealers and has more than 1,000 locations worldwide.
JCB participates in a very competitive equipment market in North America where most of its product lines are offered by numerous other manufacturers. JCB’s real presence in the North American market still centers on its telehandler and backhoe loader product lines. The company is also making some headway in vertical mast lift truck sales where it had 13 percent of the market in 2006. It has been selling backhoe loaders in North America for several decades and telehandlers for more than 10 years, and it has managed xx percent market share in each of these product lines over those years. JCB Americas’ new President, Graeme Macdonald, is tasked with putting into place plans that will double sales in North America.
