As in past reports, this update will cover the North American markets for wheeled log skidders and feller bunchers, which are the main components to the full tree harvesting system. Brief commentary is provided on the CTL harvesting system as well, but sales and production figures for harvesters and forwarders are not provided.

Since our last report on wheeled log skidders and feller bunchers, the industry has undergone some relatively significant changes. One huge aspect in today’s forestry equipment market is the widespread consolidation occurring amongst the equipment suppliers. The major alliances began with John Deere’s acquisition of Timberjack in late 1999. Then Caterpillar signed a worldwide marketing and supply agreement with Blount International. Most recently, Komatsu entered the forestry equipment arena when the company acquired Partek Forestry, manufacturer of Valmet and Timbco forestry equipment.
