Backhoe loaders have experienced weaker sales in previous years, but have more recently seen growth since 2003. As growth to the backhoe markets has been evident in the past several years, manufacturers and component suppliers are rushing to fill the current level of demand. The backhoe loader market had a value of more than $2 billion in 2005. Sales in 2004 showed significant gains with compact machines accounting for close to 20 percent and standard-sized machines representing the remaining lot. North American sales in 2005 again grew year over year, albeit more modestly. We estimate the total North American backhoe loader market saw sales of approximately xxxx units and growth of roughly six percent for the year, but a gain of nearly xxxx percent over unit sales in 2003.
