This is Yengst Associates’ tenth Industry Analysis of the North American rental equipment industry. The rental equipment industry is a mature, cyclical business segment within the machinery industry, which we study on a continuing basis because it accounts for a very high percentage of the construction machinery sold annually in North America. It is driven by a number of factors including cost of credit, interest rates, residential and non-residential construction spending, energy prices and a number of other drivers. Our analysis covers 24 major products, all typical machinery found at construction job sites, highway projects, quarries, mines and endless other applications. The Rental Equipment Industry was hit very hard in 2009 and through the first quarter of 2010. Rental revenue, utilization rates, rental rates and capital expenditure levels all have taken tremendous hits and it doesn’t look as though things are going to get better any time soon. We will discuss this further in the report.
