This report updates our last report on Motor Graders for North America published in April 2007. The continual driving force of the motor grader market in North America remains highway and road building projects fueled by government spending. In light of the new administration in the United States that takes place this year, this driving force should help give the grader market a boost with the proposed infrastructure projects currently in discussion. This report examines sales and production figures of Motor Graders through 2008 and provides a sales and production forecast ranging from the current year 2009 through 2013.

Since our last report in 2007, the U.S. economy has been hit hard by an ever weakening housing sector that has now slipped over and caused big declines in nonresidential construction as well. The banking industry has been severely impacted by sub-prime mortgages, which has caused problems both domestically and overseas as well. At the same time, the U.S. dollar has been battered against foreign currencies, resulting in stronger export activity for domestic manufacturers catering to demand abroad, and has created a difficult situation for importing suppliers as the weaker dollar makes the cost of importing weigh heavily on margins and may at times be a loss financially. Grader activities have both prospered because of these events in recent years and yet have been affected in a negative way in 2009 as exports have dropped almost completely with world recession in full force and a significant recession in place in North America.
