This report discusses both types of aerial work platforms (AWPs): Scissor lifts and boom lifts. Aerial work platforms are used in many situations, construction and otherwise, that require an elevated surface for workers to stand on up to 150 feet high. A scissor lift "scissors" the platform in a straight vertical line to the desired lift height. The boom lift is equipped with a long arm, or boom, that raises the platform at an angle and is able to move in a somewhat swinging motion to change the angle and height of the platform.
